Licence to operate a bridge and gantry crane


To provide participants with the skills and the knowledge to safely operate a Bridge & Gantry Crane.

On successful completion participants then undertake the SafeWork Assessment required to receive High Risk work Licence (CB)

Bridge crane means a crane that:
consists of a bridge beam or beams, that are mounted to end carriages at each end, and
can travel along elevated runways, and
has 1 or more hoisting mechanisms arranged to traverse across the bridge.

Gantry crane means a crane that:
consists of a bridge beam or beams supported at one or both ends by legs mounted to end carriages, and
can travel on supporting surfaces or deck levels, whether fixed or not, and
has a crab with 1 or more hoisting units arranged to travel across the bridge.

This unit applies to the activities of a person operating bridge crane or gantry crane that is:
controlled from a permanent cabin or control station on the crane, or
remotely controlled and having more than 3 powered operations

  • You will be issued with a Statement of Attainment TLILIC0006 Licence to operate a Bridge and Gantry crane by Workplace Industry Training (RTO 40965) . This certificate is nationally recognised. 
  • National High Risk Licence Class (CB) 

Prerequisites for this Course

  • 100 points of identification (EOI Information Sheet)
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or over
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English*
  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills assessment*
  • Must have a USI or obtain a USI prior to course, or, WIT can apply on the Learner's request
